Services and Programs

AARP DRIVER SAFETY PROGRAM
FASC hosts classes for drivers 55 years and older. When completed, you may be entitled to a discount on your car insurance. The first class is for 8 hours (split up over 2 sessions) and every 3 years thereafter you can take a 4 hour "refresher" course. Class size is limited and there is a fee. The fee must be paid at the time of registration. Open to the entire community.
Schedule:
September 9 - 6:00 to 10:00p.m. - 4hr course
October 7 - 1:15 to 5:00p.m. - 4hr course
October 19 & 20 - 6:00 to 10:00p.m. - 8hr course
November 10 - 6:00 to 10:00p.m. - 4hr course
December 2 - 6:00 to 10:00p.m. - 4hr course

ALZHEIMER'S ASSOCIATION CARE CONSULTATION SERVICE
Persons with Alzheimer's disease or related dementias and/or their family care partners can meet with Alzheimer's Association staff to receive one-to-one assistance to manage care and to make more informed decisions regarding services and treatments. Membership not required.

The service is offered by appointment , call 332-7357. Questions directed to Brenda Johnson.

BLOOD PRESSURE CHECK

FASC offers free blood pressure checks on the first, second, third, and last Wednesdays at noon. St. Lucas, Brookdale Senior Living, Keystone, Faribault Commons, and Pleasant Manor provide the staff. No appointment necessary. Open to the entire community.

BOOK CLUB

This group meets on the last Monday of each month at 9a.m. to discuss the monthly book of choice. There is no cost, members only.

CARDS

Every day, starting at 1p.m., the FASC offers a place for its members to join in a card game. No pre-registration is necessary. Card players must be a FASC member, there is a minimal charge to play.

Monday- Bridge and '500'

Tuesday- Player's Choice

Wednesday- Euchre

Thursday- Pfeiffer

Friday- Bridge and '500'

CARD MAKING CLASS

The class makes special occasion or seasonal cards using the latest techniques and supplies. Cost is $3 for members or $6 for non-members and a pre-registration is required.

CAREGIVER SUPPORT GROUPS

"Take Care" meets on the first Thursday of each month from 1:30 to 3:00p.m. Any caregiver of an adult or elder is welcomed to attend.  Please call ahead.

"Take Care, Too" meets on the 2nd Tuesday of each month from 6:00 to 7:30p.m. This group is designed for adult children assisting an aging parent.

CHECKBOOK BALANCING SERVICE

This free service, offered upon request, is provided by Rueben Tangren, a FASC member & volunteer. Appointments can be made by calling FASC. Membership not required.

CREATIVE CRAFTS CLUB

This group meets from 1:30 to 3:30p.m. on the second and fourth Thursday of every month and is open to men and women. Those in attendance are invited to bring their own craft project and work on it while visiting with others. Senior Center members only.

COMPUTER CLASSES AND OPEN LAB

Computer classes at FASC are a perfect setting for any older adult, no matter what level they are. In lab, you will have class sizes of five or less, and be taught by an instructor experienced at working with adults 50 and over. For class times please check the calendar link for schedules and for cost or other questions please call FASC at 507-332-7357.  Senior Center computer classess will now be held off site. Please check location when you register.

Classes Offered:

-The Computer Open Lab is being discontinued while we review the program. If you have questions about your computer, please call the FASC at 332-7357 and we will connect you with the right person.

-Introduction to Computers for those who know nothing about computers, but are interested in learning.  Dates: Sept. 13 & 14  ~  1:30 to 3:30 p.m.

-Beginning Word Processing continues the concepts from "Introduction to Computers".  Dates: Oct. 11 & 12  ~  1:30 to 3:30p.m.

-Introduction to Email will teach the first steps of how to set up an account and use the address book. Call FASC if interested in this class.

-Introduction to Using the Internet teaches the basics of how to gain access to the information on the World Wide Web. Call FASC if interested in this class.

-Digital Camera Workshop will teach you how to transfer your digital pictures from the camera into your computer. Must have basic computer skills.

-Buying a Computer Workshop will help you to know what to look for when buying a computer, such as speed, hard drive size, monitor type, and hardware & software options.

-In-Home Computer Assistance is for people who need help stting up a home computer, email, or have other questions. We do not do large reqairs, but can help with smaller problems and questions, such as:

1. Install printer, scanner, antivirus/anti-spyware software

2. Set up internet and email

3. Set up a new computer

4. Help you buy a new computer and hook it up

5. Install a new hard drive or memory

6. Create the system restore DVD's

7. Make the system restore diagnostic CD

8. Copy and transfer data

In-Home Computer Assistance Cost: $12/hr.for members; $18/hr for non-members

No stress, low impact, aerobics. Class meets on Thursday, from 10 - 11a.m., for members only.

FOOT CLINIC

On the 2nd and the last Wednesday of each month, there is a foot clinic at FASC. Pre-registration is required, call 332-7357. There is a fee for this service. Open to the entire community.

HEALTH CARE DIRECTIVE

This important document outlines your health care wishes. An FASC volunteer will assist you in writing your health care directive. Afternoon appointments can be made for the 3rd Tuesday of most months. Open to the entire community.

HEALTH INSURANCE COUNSELOR

Meet with a trained volunteer to receive individual assistance with Medicare, Medicare Part D, and other health insurance questions. This is a free, confidential service of the FASC, the MN Board on Aging and Area Agency on Aging. Appointments are available the 2nd and 4th Fridays. Call the Senior Center to make an appointment. Open to the entire community.

KITCHEN BAND

Come and listen, or if interested, join other FASC members as they make beautiful music using kitchen utinsils. The Kitchen Band rehearsals are on the 2nd Monday of each month, beginning at 10:15a.m. Please call FASC if interested in joining The Kitchen Band.

LIFE WRITING GROUP

Meets monthly on the 3rd Wednesday from 9:30 to 10:30a.m. All skill levels are encouraged to attend. Learn an easy method for recording your life stories; you know, the stories the kids ask you to tell them time and time again. The coffee will be on.

OUT TO LUNCH BUNCH

This group is for Senior Center members -men and women- who are interested in trying different restaurants in Faribault and the surrounding area. They meet on the third Tuesday of each month. The cost of the meal is 'Dutch Treat', call the Senior Center to sign up.

SENIOR COMPANION VOLUNTEERS:
     -Visit homebound isolated adults
     -Provide support to family caregivers
     -Assist with grocery shopping and appointments
     -Become a friend who listens and cares
VOLUNTEERS RECEIVE:
     -Training and recognition
     -Transportation reimbursement
     -Tax-free stipend for those who qualify
     -Joy and satisfaction in helping others
