Historic Groundbreaking Celebration

It was 2008 when the Senior Center's board began discussing a possible building expansion project and after nine years of planning the official groundbreaking of the Senior Center's building expansion was held last Tuesday, October 3rd.

The process has required patience with years of meetings and many votes along the way. I recall one such meeting when the Senior Center Board was pondering the decision on whether or not to proceed with the project and words that were spoken by a former board member, Bob Hammer.  Bob recalled a portion of a poem by Rev. Peter Raible that says, "We all rest in the shade of trees we did not plant." Bob and many other board members, senior center members and other donors knew that this would be a long road but knew that it was important enough to start so that others would benefit. Thank you to everyone who joined in the celebration and helped us get to this point.

Keep up the good work

Although our gifts to-date have been numerous and greatly appreciated, please keep in mind that our goal is not complete. We are proud to say that over 500 unique donors have given over 80% of the money necessary through pledges, cash and in-kind gifts. But we still must finish raising the final 20%.  These are just a few thoughts for you to ponder:

  • Consider adding another year to your pledge or make a second gift to your current donation
  • Increase your existing pledge to $1,000 so your name is included on the Wall of Honor
  • If you have the capacity to offer a gift as a challenge match, you may be encouraging other to give. You would be doubling your intended donation.
  • Maybe you have been waiting until you saw us "moving dirt" before you made your donation.  You need wait no longer!
  • Think about making a donation in memory of or in honor of a loved one.
  • The end of the year is coming so why not make your charitable donation to us and take advantage of the tax benefit.

You may download a pledge form from our website, stop at the Senior Center to drop off a check or mail it to us at 19 Division St. W. Please consider supporting this effort in the final stages, your financial support is needed and greatly appreciated.

Generous Corporate Gift

The Groundbreaking Event also gave us the opportunity to announce another charitable corporate gift. The local company, Daikin Applied (formerly McQuays), has donated the three air handling units that will be used in our addition. The Senior Center thanks Daikin for this incredibly generous gift!

JFK Program

Where were you when John F. Kennedy was assassinated? Join us on October 18th at 6:30 p.m. for a balanced discussion on one of the pivotal events of the 20th century. Program presenter David Jones follows his passion for history by giving presentations on key historical topics.  Through slides, photos and film clips, David's narration of historical events is always interesting.
