Never Give Up

Have you driven by the Senior Center lately? No? Then you will be in for a big surprise! Our building expansion is really taking shape, with the walls and roof all in place.

Along with the building progress, the fundraising is also still in progress. The fundraising committee met again last week and worked on ideas to help with raising the final dollars. It is their goal to have all money raised by the time we occupy the building. But as many people know, the last amount of money is tough to come up with. People are weary and many have given.

But how can you not be excited about this project? We will have more parking, our own fitness area, a conference room and large social space.  Some days the goal seems distant, but we are still optimistic that our current donors will consider another gift and those that haven't given will see that our organization is a valuable community asset worth investing in.

If you aren't sure how to proceed on making a gift you can call me at 332-7357, stop in and stop off a check or fill out a pledge form, or find information on our website at www.faribaultseniorcenter.org. Thank you for your consideration and generosity.

1936 Berlin Olympics: The Nazi Games

The 1936 Olympic Games held in Berlin are notorious for the tightly controlled image the Nazis presented to the world. But, these Games also became a blueprint for future Games that is followed to the present day. On Tuesday, March 20th beginning at 6:30 p.m. we will look at the history of the Olympics and the complicated legacy of the 1936 Games.

Class presenter is David Jones who has been presenting on historical topics, including the JFK Assassination, Apollo Moon Missions, Prohibition, and more since 1996.  Faribault Senior Center audiences have thoroughly enjoyed his presentations.

Please call 332-7357 to sign up.  This class is open to the public with a fee of $3/ Senior Center members, $6/ non-members which is payable at the door.

Will Advice Clinic

The Senior Center will be sponsoring a Will Advice Clinic at the Senior Center on Tuesday, April 10th from 1:00-4:00 p.m.  For this clinic, Mr. Gary Voegele, Attorney at Law, will be available to provide senior citizens with information and direction in the area of wills and other estate planning issues.  No wills will be prepared at this clinic. Spring has arrived

Make sure you see all of the new spring fashions for men and women now on display at Fashions on Central.  The store has been transformed from winter to spring and there are many items to choose from.

Plus, if you have any clothing you would like to donate, please stop by.  We take care of the clothes and appreciate your donations. All proceeds go toward supporting senior activities in Faribault.  The store is located at 325 Central Ave. and is open Monday-Saturday from 10:00-5:00.

TED Talk Tuesday

Join us on Tuesday, March 27 at 1:30 p.m. for the second of the program series we are calling TED Talk Tuesday.  What is a TED Talk? In a nutshell, I understand it to be a mini-video segment on a variety of ideas and topics.

This month we will view and discuss "The Surprising Science of Happiness".  The video presenter, Dan Gilbert is a Harvard psychologist who has studied happiness and bases this energetic talk on his research.  He will present ideas that might challenge your thinking about what creates happiness and will coach us in ways to support our own "psychological immune system".

After viewing the TED talk, we will have a guided discussion led by staff from Brookdale Senior Living of Faribault. Open to public; pre-register for this free program.
